FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 1, 2015
Three Outstanding Architecture Students Receive Scholarships
Springfield, MO (December 1, 2015) – AIA Springfield is proud to announce that 3 Drury University architecture students have been awarded $2,000 in scholarships.
Abigael Weller (Drury University) received $1,000. Julia Hartman (Drury University) received $500. Grace Lounsbury (Drury University) received $500.
The AIA Springfield Scholarship is open to all local residents of the AIA Springfield component region, regardless of the architecture school they attend. The annual scholarship is announced through our local component website and the Hammons School of Architecture at Drury University. Students are given a scholarship application that includes a required short paragraph explaining why they are pursuing a career in architecture. A committee of chapter board members selects a short list of candidates based on the review of applications. The short listed candidates are given approximately three weeks to prepare an informal portfolio of work, prior to interviews. A committee of chapter board members performs the interviews, selects the number and amount of the scholarships, and selects the scholarship recipients. AIA Springfield funds the scholarship through regular income and support from AIA National.
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) was created in 1857. Through education, government advocacy, community redevelopment, and public outreach activities, the AIA works toward a public environment that is responsive to the people it serves while representing the professional interests of America's architects. In close concert with other members of the design and construction team, the AIA also works to fulfill its commitment to help coordinate the building industry. AIA Springfield, headquartered in Springfield, Missouri, was founded in 1964 and serves architects in southwest Missouri. AIA members express their commitment to quality design and livability in our built environments. They adhere to a code of ethics and professional conduct that assures clients, the public, and colleagues of an architect's dedication to the highest standards in professional practice.
